About

Our Club

The Intracoastal Model Railroad Club meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. At our meetings we begin with introductions and welcome followed by a discussion of the previous month’s meeting minutes and the treasurers report. Then we start with the fun stuff – possibility of riding trains, meeting with different area train clubs, and our Club’s yearly train show at the Grissettown Fire Station. This past summer we held a couple of our Club’s meeting at the Calabash City Park near the fire station house.

Most of the Club’s members have been around the block a few times pertaining to model railroading. We have a hobby that keeps us mentally and physically active – model railroading. The members assist other members with their question and even help with their layouts.

Model railroading is a hobby that necessitates the will of the member to create his or her layout. You will find that model railroading requires the use of the most of subjects you had in your school years – math, science, physics, history, and language arts (English for the old timers).

In addition to our monthly meetings, our club also holds various model train events. In December the Intracoastal Model Railroad Club sets up various train gauge layouts at the Grissettown Fire House. We set up several of the Club’s layouts on Friday for Saturday and Sunday viewing by the public.

The Club emphasizes the various aspects of model railroading, and the sharing of modeling skills among members and the public. We conduct train shows to assist local service organizations to raise money for operational or property needs. The Intracoastal Model Railroad Club is a 501c (3) charitable organization.

Train Shows

Our favorite yearly train show is held in December at the Grissettown Fire Department. We also travel to different area club train shows around North and South Carolina.

Other Activities

The Intracoastal Model Railroad Club also travels to schools to demonstrate model railroading to students. We also share our knowledge with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts.

Seminars and Workshops

Our Club presents various  seminars and workshops (throughout the year?). The Club conducts periodic seminars and workshops that include such topics as “Introduction to Model Railroading”, “Planning for Model Railroad”, “Constructing Benchwork and Laying Track”, “Wiring a Model Railroad“, and “Scenery: Its Design and Creation.”
