Discover Model Railroading

We have Club members who tend to specialize in a specific gauge of model railroads. The most favorite among our Club members tends to be O scale followed by HO scale. Our members run larger G scale layouts. We have layouts from Z to G.

The Intracoastal Model Railroad Club is located in Brunswick County, North Carolina although we do have members who live in South Carolina. Unlike other North and South model railroad clubs, ours is a traveling club. We do not have a fixed building location like the other model railroad clubs. Our club meets at various locations such as club houses, the park during the early summer, and members homes.

This layout is modular for portability to train shows.

Our Club Train Show at Grissettown & Longwood

We often obtain new members at our Club’s railroad shows and last year was no exception. Our Club is especially hopeful for gaining younger model railroaders. The Club is always on the lookout for new members who enjoy model railroad as much as we do.

Last year’s Train Show at the Grissettown and Longwood Fire House was enjoyed by all of the Club’s members.  It was awesome getting out and discussing our hobby with those in attendance at the show in spite of Covid-19.

Assembling a layout for the Grissettown and Longwood Train Show.

We had an enjoyable time setting up the various scale train layouts that the club has.

This is our Lionel layout at this year’s Grissettown and Longwood train show.
The Grissettown and Longwood Train Show was attended by Santa who presented one of the attendees with the grand prize.

Young attendees and an extremely pleasurable time watching the various trains that were running.Next year we may have a train show in the Spring at the Rourk Woods subdivision community center. Please check back regularly to this website next Spring for specific details and regarding this Train Show.

Other train shows in which our Club participates in include Carolina Shores Clubhouse, Lake Wacamaw Farm Show,  Cape Fear Regional Jetport, and exhibits at churches.

Curiosity

A number of layouts are made to look as realistic as possible to obtain the interest of the viewer. As much fun as being at the beach.

The Journey Begins with Track

Without track, there would me no model railroading. The smaller scale trains (HO, N, and Z) have two rail track. Larger scale/gauge track will have a center rail as well. Regardless if your layout has two or three tracks, the interest in model railroading is the same.

A Timeless Hobby for All Ages

This young man is quite interested in one of the Club’s larger scale layouts at the show. Our train shows are a learning experience for our members as we exchange ideas during setting up and breaking down our layouts at the end of the train show. We also enjoy the questions and interest expressed by our visitors!

Our Christmas Tree
